University of Kent: MArch Live Brief

Aims

Our Social Prescribing manager, Gabrielle Novakovic-Thone was contacted by Dr Ambrose Gillick of the University of Kent who was looking to work in partnership with MArch at Kent School of Architecture & Planning, University of Kent on a live brief with the aim to improve our provision within the communities we work for; this would include greater access to social prescribing (an increased work force with greater visibility), greater asset mapping and support for smaller community, group and peer sessions.

THE PROJECT

Over a ten day period, Gabi spoke to the students about our charity, its aims, the work we do and if there was a spatial and architectural question to be answered- there was! A team of 5 students worked collaboratively to consider how Red Zebra could present our services, raise awareness and deliver trauma informed care effectively while thinking about accessibility and impact within the Canterbury district.

An event was held to celebrate the project, and appraise the ideas and impact of the work produced; with other local charities such as The Food Bank and Catching Lives (Canterbury) involved, we were astounded by the innovation and thoughtful design on show.

Many thanks to our team of newly inducted Zebras, the demonstrated exactly why architecture and social enterprise go hand in hand.
